There are several research fields in computer science that have embraced ontologies, including knowledge engineering, knowledge representation, qualitative modeling, language engineering, database design, information retrieval and extraction, and knowledge management and organization. This paper gives a broad insight of ontology concept used in majority of computer science applications today. The paper describes what is ontology, how to design it, how to represent it and where all it is used.
