Stainless steel is used in variolts applications. Acid solutions are widely used for the removal of undesirable scale and rust in many industrial process. In such cases, the dissolution of metal/alloy can be controlled by addition of inhibitor. The inhibiting action of N-cyclohexyl-N '-phenyl thiourea (CPTU) on the corrosion behaviour of304 55 in 1 N hydrochloric acid solution has been investigated using potentiostahc polarization technique at four different temperatures. The result obtained reveals that CPTU acts as an efficient anodic inhibitor for the corrosion of 30455. Good inhibition efficiency (>92%) was evident in the acidic solution and it was [ound to vary with temperature and concentration of the inhibitor. The adsorption of this compound on the 30455 surface is found to obey Temkeins adsorption isotherm and the inhibition is governed by physisorption mechanism. The thermodynamic parameters of adsorption deduced reveal a strong interaction and spontaneous adsorption of CPTU on the metal surface.
