Soft storey building is a typical feature in the modern multi-storey constructions in urban India; this soft storey makes the particular story weak. A soft storey is usually composed of only columns and beams while remaining storeys are made up of unreinforced masonry infill walls. In the present paper, an investigation has been made to examine the behavior of various models of reinforced concrete moment resisting frames with soft storey at different floor levels. The storeys above or below the soft storey are provided with unreinforced masonry infill walls. These masonry infill walls are modeled as panel elements. The acceleration time histories used for analysis is taken from past historical earthquake in California region. Time history analysis and equivalent static analyses were carried out for different building models considered using commercial software package ETABS. The results of the dynamic analysis for time history and equivalent static analysis have been compared. It was found that as the location of soft storey moves from ground floor to top floor, the displacement at the top most floor level reduces significantly
