Abstract
The low stiffness of laminated rubber bearings utilized in base isolation could potentially cause large lateral displacements which must be reduced by some energy dissipation mechanism. The effect of applying multiple tuned mass dampers towards reducing the lateral deformation of the isolators is studied in this paper. A four story base isolated plane frame structure having three degrees of freedom at each node with MTMD subjected to harmonic ground motion is considered for study. Comparison of response is made in terms of displacements and forces in order to investigate the effectiveness of the MTMD. The
