Abstract

Consolidation analysis using nonlinear finite element method is performed to study the behavior of a rigid and impervious strip footing resting on soil mass. Four nodedisoparametric plane starin element with two translational degrees of freedom at each node is used to model the soil deformation and pore pressure. Soil is modeled using elastic perfectly plastic model satisfying the Mohr-Coulomb yield criterion considering the associated flow rule. The displacement of footing and pore pressure in soil are coupled and the resulting equations are solved to obtain the displacement of footing and pore
