Abstract

A study of the application of artificial neural network (ANN) technique to Semi active control of single-degree-of-freedom (SDF) structure is presented. Control of the sliding displacement is achieved by applying a controlled damping force at the base of the structure. Damping force required to minimize both displacement and base shear of a SDF structure subjected to earthquake ground motion is predicted using ANN technique. Significant reduction of the displacement and base shear is observed after the application of the predicted damping force on the Friction pendulum system (FPS).
