Abstract

This paper describes semi-solid synthesizing ( SSS) process in casting for MMCs with high density matrix and low density particulate materials, the selection criteria and difficulties encountered in mixing of two macro constituents during casting. The critical step in the process is the insertion of low- density particles into the high- density matrix material. The processing techniques include the addition and mixing of graphite particles in the viscous state. Both the methods require the rotation of the stirrer during mixing of particulate phase in the matrix phase.
