Abstract

World is endowedwith a rich heritage of medicinal plants. The use of medicinal agents presumably predates the earliest recorded history. The medicinal plants are widely used by the traditional practitioners for various ailments. Micheliachampaca(Magnoliaceae) is a well known plant used in the traditional system of medicine. Various parts of this plant is used in Indian system of medicine. The plant include phytochemicals are 9,12-Octadecadienoic acid, methyl ester, 2-Propanone, linalool, methyl benzoate, benzyl acetate, cis-linalool oxide (pyranoid), phenyl acetonitrile, 2-phenyl ethyl alcohol, dihydro β-ionone, α-ionone, β-ionone, dihydro-β-ionol (0.3–3.8%), methyl anthranilate, indole and methyl linoleate. The various pharmacological study of M.champaca reported to have antimicrobial, antioxidant, anticancer, anti-infective, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and anthelmintic activity. This review discusses on botany, traditional use, phytochemical and pharmacological data of the plant.
