The birth of e-environment in publication and expansion of knowledge both has brought a revolution in online databases, e-journals; e-books etc. This has provided the user with the easiest format of accessing the information. On one side with the demand of this information era providing user with these e-resources becoming the necessity of libraries. The other side e-resources are making their space in the library budget which is crunching the budget of libraries. Because of budget crunch and thought of resources sharing for the fulfillment of users requirement, libraries has come up with the phenomenon of consortium (applicable for subscribed e-resources) which in turns helping the libraries in increasing their individual power of buying. This paper is going to discuss the concept of consortium, how consortium playing the role of helping hands for library budget and consortium initiatives in India.
