Abstract

An achiralNon- symmetric Bent Liquid Crystal(BLC)with a Oxadiazole based hetero cyclic central moiety, abbreviated asC12C10 viz., dodecyl[4-{5-(40-decyloxy)biphenyl-4-yl}-1,2,4-oxadiazol-3-yl]benzo- ate, exhibiting Ferro Electric(FE)response is reported.Product is confirmed by 1H NMR, 13C NMRand elemental analysis.Characterization of BLC phases is carriedout by Polarized Optical Microscopy(POM), Differential scanning Calorimetry(DSC),Spontaneous Polarization(PS) and Low Frequency(10Hz– 10MHz)Diel ectric Relaxation studies.C12C10 exhibit senantiotropicLCSmA,FEB2, SmG,SmEphase variance.I–SmA,B2–SmG andSmG–SmE transitionsareof first ordernature.FEB2 phases exhibitsa moderate PS of �80 nCcm�2. B2 phase exhibitsCurie–Weissbehaviortoconfirm FEnature.Off-centered low frequency(KHz)dispersion infersascissormodeandahigh frequency(MHz)modetoreflect the distinct time-scale response.Die lectric Dispersion isrelatively susceptible in lower frequency KHz region. Arrheniuss hiftinRelaxationFrequency(fR) infers higher activation energy(Ea) innon-FEphases for HF mode and lower value for KHzmode.Trendsof fR, dielectricstrength Δε, α-parameterand Ea are discussed inviewofthedatareportedinotherLCcompounds
